Postdoctoral Fellows at Harvard University

Guidelines & Practices / Individual Development Plan

An Individual Development Plan (IDP) is a formal or informal collaborative effort between a postdoctoral fellow and the fellow's mentor or principle investigator to define goals and evaluate progress cyclically during the postdoc's tenure.

While institutionally Harvard does not require the development of a formal plan (please check with your School for recommended methods), postdocs and faculty are encouraged to consider designing a mutually beneficial course of action that will enhance the postdoc's training.

Postdocs and faculty interested in receiving guidance about setting up IDPs are invited to contact Greg Llacer, the director of the Office for Postdoctoral Affairs (gregory_llacer [at] harvard.edu) for more information, School contacts, and relevant resources.
