Postdoctoral Fellows at Harvard University

Guidelines & Practices / Term Limits

Harvard University does not employ an institutional term limit policy for the postdoctoral fellow population.  However, policies within specific Schools have been implemented or are currently in the planning stages.   In most cases, postdoctoral fellows who are within the first five years of having received the Ph.D. (or comparable terminal degree) can expect that the total term limit for their postdoctoral experience at Harvard to be in the three to five year range, on an annual appointment basis.  Please check with the Academic Affairs unit of your School for the most current information on postdoctoral term limits.
